Craigslist has been douched

July 3rd, 2008

It’s such a shame that people have to be such douchebags.  If you ever read posts on my pre-crash site, you know how I feel about what has become of Ebay.  So now, it seems that as Craigslist gains popularity, the bayholes have jumped onboard to ruin that too.

You see, it’s like going to community rummage sales and finding that at least half of the sellers there are professional shit merchants that go around the country selling their brand new crap.

Likewise, Ebay got it’s start as people selling things that they no longer need and you could go on there and find some great deals.  Now, most of what you find is professional rejects that have zero people skills and would otherwise not be able to function in any business setting.

So tonight I was on Craigslist and found the inevitable - a-hole sellers listing the same thing multiple times in multiple places at multiple prices and even worse, with notes like “don’t waste my time….”  Up yours bayholes!!

Please, don’t ruin Craigslist.

Extreme importance of following up for sales

June 20th, 2008

A lesson for any newbies to sales or building your own business…follow up on all opportunities and do it often.

At any given time, my biz has at least 10 deals in the pipeline and I just pick a day every week and I bug thesee people every week until they say no or they say yes.  Being ignored means that they stay on the list.

Today I closed 4 of them…old opportunities where the customers just didn’t feel like answering.  The thing is, just like telemarketing, you never know when you’ll hit the right person at the right moment.

So if you’ve got a pipeline never ever ignore it and don’t be afraid to be a pest…the customer expects it.

Growing Coffee at Home

June 19th, 2008

I’ve tried a few times to grow coffee here in Northeast Ohio.  The first time it was going fairly well until I accidentally left the plants outside for the first frost.  After that I never did get the seeds to sprout again.

Here’s a cool site (http://www.coffeeresearch.org/agriculture/homegrowing.htm) that deals with this.  I’m now convinced that it’s time to try again!

Another cool resource is http://www.growcoffee.com/seeds.php.  They seem to have a wide selection of coffee seeds to choose from, whereas most places only carry some of the more popular specimans.

Have fun…grow some coffee…let me know how it goes.

Next Father’s Day…

June 17th, 2008

I think what he’s saying is that fthe point of ather’s day is NOT to spend the day on the golf course…..

http://www.dadsanddaughters.org/blog/fathersday1.html:

“On Father’s Day, the words of appreciation can go from dad to child, not just from child to dad. If you’re a father or stepfather, take some time this Sunday to show how much being a dad means to you….”

Better tasting peas

June 15th, 2008

From a link supplied from one of our readers, here is a really interesting article on growing better tasting peas and hydroponics

“When I was young, I was like most kids and would not eat peas—until my mother came up with calling them “nice, green peas”. I ate them like there was no tomorrow. With hydroponics, you can turn all your peas into “nice, green peas” that are full of nutrition and taste unlike traditionally grown peas…”

Coffee Review: Chili’s

June 15th, 2008

Have you ever gone to certain large chain restaurants and ordered coffee, only to find yourself unable to drink even a cup of it?  That’s been my experience at nearly every large chain restaurant - the coffee isn’t warm enough, generally stale, and even when it’s fresh it tastes like low grade dog food?

Ah!  But tonight I took the family to Chili’s and ordered coffee….it was wonderful.  It tasted great, was absolutely fresh, and nice and hot.

Just thought I would pass this info along.

Good tech support from Dish Network

June 12th, 2008

It’s not right to complain about bad tech support and not praise good tech support.

That being said, I give much credit to Dish Network support.  Everytime I call, I get a rep on the phone within just a few minutes and more often than not, that rep is empowered to work within the system to reset my equipment, make changes, whatever I need. If something needs to be escalated, I have I higher level tech on the phone within minutes.

They are not a small mom and pop shop.  Whatever they’re doing in order to give proper technical support while being big should be studied very carefully by many other companies.

Also on this day: June 12, 1994 - O.J. Simpson

June 12th, 2008

Far more memorable to Americans is the O.J. Simpson car chase….exactly 14 years ago today.

We all know that O.J. was found innocent of the murders, but here’s something I did not realize (quoted from http://www.history.com/this-day-in-history.do?action=Article&id=1033):

“In a civil trial brought about by the families of the victims, Simpson was found responsible for causing Goldman’s death and committing battery against Brown in February 1997, and was ordered to pay a total of $33.5 million, little of which he has paid.”

This day in history: June 12, 1987

June 12th, 2008

Quoted from: http://www.history.com/this-day-in-history.do

Exactly 21 years ago today:

On this day in 1987, in one of his most famous Cold War speeches, President Ronald Reagan challenges Soviet Leader Mikhail Gorbachev to “tear down” the Berlin Wall, a symbol of the repressive Communist era in a divided Germany…

…Most listeners at the time viewed Reagan’s speech as a dramatic appeal to Gorbachev to renew negotiations on nuclear arms reductions. It was also a reminder that despite the Soviet leader’s public statements about a new relationship with the West, the U.S. wanted to see action taken to lessen Cold War tensions. Happily for Berliners, though, the speech also foreshadowed events to come: Two years later, on November 9, 1989, joyful East and West Germans did break down the infamous barrier between East and West Berlin. Germany was officially reunited on October 3, 1990.”
